VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

The Northwestern Juvenile Project is a longitudinal study of 1829 youth who were initially detained at the Cook County Temporary Juvenile Detention Center in Chicago. We have been tracking and following them for 10 years. We examine their mental health and substance abuse needs, their service use, and their engagement in HIV/AIDS risk behavior and other life-threatening or violent behaviors. We will be following these youth (now adults) for another 5 years as they age into the young adulthood period (26-31), focusing especially on HIV/AIDS risk and substance use.

We are looking for volunteers to help us with day-to-day office projects for the next several months.

Potential Benefits:
  • Introduction to what it takes to relocate and reinterview a highly mobile delinquent population for a longitudinal field study;
  • Opportunity to become familiar with the operations of a large research project (a plus for anyone looking to gain experience before applying to graduate school);
  • Contribution to streamlining our locating procedures;
  • Informal (but hard-working) work environment.
We are asking for a commitment of 8-12 hours per week during regular working hours at least through the summer.
